Billy C Boxing Contest - 28/2/2014

For TBCB's latest entry in the Boxing With Billy C fight predictions contest, we've simmed the fights listed below 100 times each. We've offered a brief summary of each fight based on the simulations, or you can read the entire summary of all the fights, which includes a lot of in-depth detail.

  • J’Leon Love vs. Vladine Biosse: Love shouldn’t have any problem prevailing, given his 79 wins, but since 54 of them were by decision (43 unanimous), we expect him to have to go all the way. He only had 69 knockdowns, which is why his 25 victories by stoppage broke down to 9 by KO and 16 by TKO.
  • Ricky Burns vs. Terrance Crawford: Crawford will win, but with 48 victories for him, 37 for Burns, and 15 draws, it won’t be easy. He won 32 times by decision (24 unanimous) and 16 by stoppage (4 KOs, 12 TKOs), with just 34 knockdowns scored in the 100 fights, so this will be a slugfest to the finish.
  • Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Brian Vera: Chavez Jr. won 77 times, 41 by stoppage (17 KOs, 24 TKOs), so look for him to likely end this one in the later rounds. He scored 124 knockdowns compared to just 9 for Vera, who managed just 1 stoppage win that as a TKO.
  • Orlando Salido vs. Vasyl Lomachenko: With 51 fights going his way, Salido is our pick, but Lomachenko had 45 victories, and the knockdown tally was 76-53 in favor of Salido, so this should be an evenly-matched brawl. Salido won more often by decision (33 by decision (23 unanimous) and 18 stoppages (9 KOs, 9 TKOs)) while Lomachenko’s victories were more closely divided (25 by decision (18 unanimous) and 20 stoppages (8 KOs, 12 TKOs)), so if Lomachenko can manage to put Salido on the canvas early in this fight, it could go his way.
  • Robert Stieglitz vs. Arthur Abraham: Abraham was the convincing winner of the sims, with 76 victories, but it’s a toss-up whether he prevails by decision (39 times (30 unanimous)) or stoppage (37 times (15 KOs, 22 TKOs)). However, his 139-10 edge in knockdowns tells us he has a good shot of ending this one early.
  • Jessica Balogun vs. Christina Hammer: Hammer had the clear edge in the sims, winning 65 times, but with 58 of those wins coming by decision (39 unanimous), we expect this one to go the distance. Of Balogun’s 29 wins, 26 were by decision (17 unanimous), and Hammer had the edge in knockdowns, 63-28.
  • Lanardo Tyner vs. Christopher Pearson: Pearson won 86 times, but 74 of those were by decision (71 unanimous), with just 63 knockdowns, so look for him to take his older opponent all the way to the end.
  • Badou Jack vs. Derek Edwards: Jack dominated the sims, winning 93 times, 63 by decision (59 unanimous), with 121 knockdowns vs. just 2 for Edwards. Even though Jack will have no problem putting his opponent on the canvas once or twice, it will come down to the judges’ decision.
  • Donatas Bondorovas vs. Willie Monroe Jr.: This was one of those fights were you could probably flip a coin too: Bondorovas squeezed by his opponent 47-45 in the sims, with his victories nearly evenly split between 25 decisions (12 unanimous) and 22 stoppages (7 KOs, 15 TKOs). However, he dominated in knockdowns, 53-6, so maybe that’s the stat to pay attention to here and expect him to likely pull out a TKO victory.
  • Cerresso Fort vs. Vitaliy Kopylenko: Kopylenko won 64 of the fights, 46 by decision (38 unanimous), so expect him to go all the way to win this one.
  • Brandon Adams vs. Daniel Edouard: Like the Bondorovas vs. Monroe Jr. bout, this one was very close, with Edouard taking 47 of the sims to 45 for Adams. While we picked Edouard on that basis, Adams’ victories tended toward stoppages (28 of those (11 KOs, 17 TKOs)), and he scored 72 knockdowns compared to 25 for Edouard, so we wouldn’t be surprised if he ends this one in the middle rounds. If he can’t do that, Edouard is more likely to win by decision, since he did so 34 times (29 unanimous).
  • Raymond Gatica vs. Sena Agbeko: Agbeko should have no problem not only beating Gatica but likely doing so early: Of his 81 wins, 48 were by stoppage (19 KOs, 29 TKOs), and he had a 161-43 edge dominance in knockdowns. His average number of rounds per stoppage victory was just 5.6.
